BOOK REVIEWS OF Guiding Those Left Behind

ARIZONA
Ben T. Traywick of the Tombstone Epitaph said “This book is an excellent reference book that simplifies all the necessary tasks that must be done when there is a death in the family. There is even an explanation as to how you can arrange your own estate so that your heirs will not be left with a multitude of nagging problems.” “The reviewer has been going through probate for two years with no end yet in sight. This book at the beginning two year ago would have helped immensely.”

CALIFORNIA
Margot Petit Nichols of the Carmel Pine Cone called it a “. . . TRULY RIVETING READ.” “ . . . I could scarcely put it down.” “This is a book that we should all have, either on our book shelves or thoughtfully placed with our important papers.”

A Will Is Not Enough

Many people who have a Will think that they have their affairs in order. They believe that their Will can take care of any problem that may arise. But the primary function of a Will is to distribute property to people named in a Will. A Will cannot:
a Protect your assets and limit your debt
a Provide care for a minor or disabled child
a Appoint someone to make your health care decisions should you be unable to do so
a Appoint someone to handle your finances should you be unable to do so
a Arrange to pay for your health care should you need long term nursing care, including qualifying for MEDICAID.
a Avoid Guardianship.

AMELIA E. POHL, Esq. has written a book that explains all of these things. It is a continuation of the Guiding Those Left Behind book. For example, this Guide book explains why it is important to avoid guardianship. The Will book explains how to avoid guardianship.

The Will book builds on basic Estate Planning concepts introduced in Chapter 7 of this book and then goes on to introduce other, more sophisticated, Estate Planning methods. Although the topics are sophisticated, the writing style is the same as in this book. It is written in plain English. It is intended for use by the average person.

How To Defend Yourself Against Your Lawyer

 By AMELIA E. POHL, ESQ.

Copyright 2004 ISBN 1-892407-57-4 6"x 9" 274 pages $17.95

This book is about the unhappy experiences people have with their lawyers, included that of the author. She became involved in a law suit and found herself in the role of client, rather than lawyer. She become concerned about lawyers who do not provide their clients with loyalty and respect. This book is a result of those concerns.

The book is divided into chapters that cover the most common problems that take people to a lawyer: divorce, probate, criminal, personal injury, starting a business, making a Will, buying a house, etc. Each chapter tells of the misadventures of the unwary as they sought the services of a lawyer without a clue as to what they were "buying." This book is funny, sad, interesting, but most of all informative. It tells the reader how to become a savvy consumer, i.e., how to find the right lawyer for the right job. If you ever find the need to employ a lawyer, you will be glad you read this book.
